Question

Although I am able to save a customized view of my board's color configuration, I am unable to customize the visibility of class and subclass objects that are listed in the Color Dialog, Visibility tab.

Is there a way I can save and customize the visibility of class and subclass objects?

Suggestion Solution

The configuration of class and subclass visibility is saved in an xml file. If you enable the user variable display_custom_vis_layers in the User Preferences Editor and edit the CVCustomVisPaneLayers.xml file, you can customize the visibility of class and subclass objects.

The default path of CVCustomVisPaneLayers.xml which lists the configuration of class and subclass visibility is:

C:\Cadence\SPB_17.4\share\pcb\examples\CVCustomVisPaneLayers.xml

To enable PCB editor to access the CVCustomVisPaneLayers.xml, copy this sample file and paste it into: %home%\pcbenv

This xml file records whether class and subclass visibility is enabled or suppressed. You can customize visibility by editing this file in a text editor. Editing instructions are provided within the xml file. When you restart PCB Editor and open the Color Dialog your editing updates will be enabled in the Color Dialog, Visibility tab.

To set the display_custom_vis_layers variable:

  1. Select the menu items: Setup > User Preferences.
  2. Open the Display folder and Visual sub-folder.
  3. Set the variable display_custom_vis_layers to "both."
