Question

I am currently working on a project in OrCAD PCB Designer Professional (17.4) and need to update some footprints. I drew some footprints for through-hole connectors, and then realized the annular rings are too small. I tried to edit the pad in the Padstack Editor, which seemed to work fine. I then went to the existing footprint, deleted all of the incorrect pads, and replaced them with the updated pads.

However, when I review the .brd file, and either select Shape > Update symbols, or I unplace and replace a component, the footprint is the old version with the small annular rings. The update is missing and nothing has changed.

Solution

In the .dra symbol after the edit, did you do File > Create Symbol and make sure that it said that it created a new .psm? If so, select Update > Symbol to verify the footprint is updated.
