Question

I am having trouble accessing my Cadence OrCAD software. When I try to launch the software, I get an error message that says, "license server is invalid."

When I review ipconfig /all from my command line and verify the host ID that I forwarded to EMA when I requested my educational license, I see I forwarded the host ID from the line that states: “Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network Connection, Media State: Media disconnected." I think I was supposed to send the physical address “Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi" instead of the address of the Bluetooth adapter.

Solution

Yes, licensing is based on the machine host ID or physical address on which the OrCAD software will be installed, which is typically an Ethernet or wireless card.

A Bluetooth adapter and the host ID of a virtualized machine such as VMware, or Hyper V are unsupported. Licensing is never provided for an adapter that reports, "Media disconnected."

We need to rehost your license file from the Bluetooth address to the address of your Wireless LAN adapter.

This process may take up to 10 business days to complete. Once complete, you will be emailed the new license file and will be able to use the License Server Configuration Utility to reconfigure your licensing using the Cadence License Manager so that it references your new license.
