How can I modify or enlarge Allegro scaling and the size of the Allegro PCB Editor icons? I have several monitors and a large 4K monitor. The menus are shifted, and the text of some forms is sometimes cut off as shown in the screen image below.

There are several different approaches you can take to alter Allegro screen scaling and the size of icons. You can either edit the Allegro system properties or edit the configuration of the Allegro “tbiconsize” variable. Both approaches are applicable to versions 17.2 and 17.4.

Approach #1:  Edit Allegro system properties

You can enlarge Allegro scaling by editing settings that are associated to Allegro Properties as follows.

  1. Open Windows File Manager and navigate to C:\Cadence\SPB_17.2 or SPB_17.4\tools\bin\allegro.exe.

  2. Highlight allegro.exe and select Properties from your right mouse pop-up menu.

  3. Open the Compatibility tab and click the Change high DPI settings button.

  4. Select the Override high DPI scaling behavior check box. Then click the Application drop-list arrow and select System.
  5. Click the OK buttons to apply the updated configuration settings and close the open dialog boxes.

Approach #2: Adjust scaling of multiple monitors

The scaling of multiple monitors may not be consistently set. If you set the scaling value to be the same for both monitors the forms and menus will appear as expected.

To correct this problem:

  1. Move your mouse to an open area of the desktop and select Display settings from your right mouse pop-up menu.

  2. Select one monitor and check the scaling. Select the other monitor and set the scaling to the same value as the first one.

Approach #3: Edit the configuration of the “tbiconsize” variable

The “tbiconsize” variable was added to Allegro PCB Editor with version 17.2. You can control the settings associated to this variable as follows.

  1. Open Allegro PCB Editor and select the menu items: Setup > User Preferences.

  2. Select Ui > General under the Categories section.
  3. Click the Next button to display the second page of the General Preferences.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow for tbiconsize. Options you can select are small, medium and large.

  5. Select large and then click the OK button to apply your selection and close the dialog box.
