Do I have to run LMTools and restart the license manager each time I re-attach the dongle?


If you boot up your computer without the dongle attached, the Windows Service that handles the Cadence License Manager, is unable to start properly. This is standard FlexNet licensing behavior.

There are two basic options to get the License Manager to see the dongle and start the licenses.

  1. After making sure the dongle is attached, open LMTools, make sure Cadence License Manager is selected. Switch to the Start/Stop/Reread tab, click on Stop Server, wait 5 seconds, click on Start Server, wait 5 seconds, and then proceed. (Rereading the license file isn’t necessary.)

  2. Attach the dongle and reboot the computer.
